History of SMK Sulaiman

ANGLO-CHINESE SCHOOL (1912-1923)

  • The late Loke Yew, a wealthy miner had donated a building to be served as school.  
  • Mr. Goh Sam Yong was elected as the first principal with 60 students and 2 teachers.  

GOVERNMENT ENGLISH SCHOOL (1923-1939)
  • The  government acquired the school administration and the school name was changed.  
  • The principal was replaced with Mr. C. S. Muthuthamby.  
  • The number of students was increased to 200.  

SULAIMAN ENGLISH SCHOOL
  • Due to the declining economic conditions, the number of students was decreased to 108 with 2 teachers.  
  • Mr. Appadirau became the third principal.  
  • The school name was changed to Sulaiman English School as a tribute to commemorate Tuanku Besar Pahang Yang Teramat Mulia Al-Marhum Tengku Sulaiman Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Ahmad Al-Mu'adzam Shah.  

SEKOLAH MENENGAH SULAIMAN (1964-1996)
  • The Form 6 art class was started in 1974 while in 1978, the science class for Form 6 was started.  
  • In 1980, the number of students was increased to 1081 and the principal at that time was Madam Hew Yoon Yew (April 1986-1990).  

SEKOLAH MENENGAH KEBANGSAAN SULAIMAN (1997-NOW)
  • In 2006, SMK Sulaiman was chosen to hold the Kelas Rancangan Khas for the Form 1 students from Bentong who got excellent result in Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR).
